The Case Team & Bibliography

SCROLL

Materials and research for the Forest City case study was led, supervised, and edited by Professor Lawrence Susskind, Ford Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Development of the Forest City case study used research from Marcel William’s 2016 Master in City Planning thesis and advised by Lawrence Susskind.

Teaching notes, video write-ups, and material compilation was coordinated by Alaa Mukahhal. Chapter introductions for the case study were adapted by Alaa Mukahhal from the “Forest City Case Study” written by Lawrence Susskind, Marcel Williams, and Libbie Cohen. Nicolas Allen, Libbie Cohen, Takeo Kuwabara, and Marcel Williams interviewed stakeholders, residents, officials, and developers associated with the mega-project. Libbie Cohen translated multiple interviews from Mandarin to English. Maps were created by Nicolas Allen and Alaa Mukahhal. Drone footage and pictures of Forest City and the surrounding areas was taken by Nicolas Allen and Takeo Kuwabara. We are also grateful to Serina Rahman for providing research support and English translations for Malaysian interviewees.

The Forest City Case Study was created in collaboration with the MIT School of Architecture + Planning’s Samuel Tak Lee Real Estate Entrepreneurship Lab Case Study Initiative. The project is directed and managed by Danya Sherman. Paige Mazurek served as video editor/animator and Jeff Soyk was creative director and UI/UX designer.
